MIAMI – March 7, 2012 – The BK CROWNTM/MC Program at BURGER KING® has continued its endeavor to inspire children’s imaginations and empower them to learn more about important causes and charities. Through the program’s new promotion with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), children had the opportunity to name a one year-old male, black-footed penguin residing at the New York Aquarium in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The promotion, which ran from January 30th through March 4th, concluded this week in a naming ceremony at the New York Aquarium, announcing the winning name that was chosen for the black-footed penguin by the children who voted on BKCrown.com – Scooter.
“We’ve enjoyed a strong relationship with the Wildlife Conservation Society and we are excited to be working with them on this latest promotion,” said Alex Macedo, senior vice president, North American marketing, Burger King Corp. “Choosing the penguin’s name will allow children to feel a part of this young penguin’s life and will teach them that they can make a big difference in the world around them.”
To kick off the promotion, children had the opportunity to login at BKCrown.com and submit their name ideas from January 30th through February 19th. The five most popular names were posted on BKCrown.com, so children could come back to vote for their favorite from February 20th through March 4th. The winning name was announced on Tuesday, March 6th, followed by a naming ceremony for “Scooter” at the New York Aquarium.
“Our partnership with Burger King Corp. has helped us to educate young Americans about the importance of saving wildlife and wild places, while providing direct support for our conservation programs.” said Bertina Ceccarelli, Executive Vice President, Global Resources, Wildlife Conservation Society.
